WTF- What The Fence is now using oil based stain for some of the fence staining jobs we perform.
Staining your fence once it has been built or “lifted” will increase the life of your fence. Remember? Not staining your fence is
like not putting oil in your car? Note: Each franchisee chooses the stain type depending upon the budget and individual needs of the customer.
Yup- this might seem like a pretty boring topic. We know that most of us are not experts
regarding fence staining and most likely don’t want to become experts. You have better use for
your time. However, since we have installed and stained over 7 million linear feet of fencing, we
have learned that a good quality professional stain depends on using a good product. And What
The Fence has managed to work out a deal with our suppliers that allows us to use the oil-
based stain at the same price as an inferior water based stain.
WTF- What The Fence uses an oil-based stain. Because oil-based stain:
1. Does not need to be stripped before reapplication.
2. Requires less labor and money to maintain the stain.
3. Water-based stains require a thorough power wash to strip the old stain.
4. With oil-based stain, all you need is a quick rinse to remove debris; the new stain can go
right over the old.
5. The oil in the stain mimics the oils found in your Cedar pickets.
6. Oil moisturizes and preserves the wood rather than sealing over it with a water-based stain.
7. Is healthier for the wood.
8. Shows off the lumber!
9. Complements the wood grain rather than covering it.
10. Results in a more natural aesthetic.
I can get AI to help bloviate and sound poetic about each point, however I think this is pretty self- explanatory as to why we use a good, oil-based stain. No need to waste your time.
When you are getting quotes for staining your privacy wooden fence, make sure to ask the
home service provider what type of stain they are using.
